An Owensboro man who was 17 when he was charged with attempted murder last July has been sentenced on a lesser charge. According to the Messenger-Inquirer,18-year-old Jawon Cotton was originally charged as an adult on two counts of attempted murder and and receiving a stolen firearm in a July 12 drive-by shooting at Bolivar and East Seventh. Three men told police shots were fired at them from a white Chevrolet SUV. No one was hurt in the incident. Reports say Cotton first said he was riding in the vehicle with Hunter Clouse, and fired the shots. Then Cotton changed his story and said Clouse actually fired the gun. Clouse pleaded guilty to first-degree wanton endangerment among other charges in exchange for a four-year prison sentence in April.
