Drivers on Carter Road near the U.S. 60 exit ramp may have noticed a flashing yellow stoplight over the weekend. According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the new light was activated Thursday at the end of the eastbound exit ramp. Motorists are reminded to be aware of changes in traffic flow the new signal will create in the area. The signal was installed to help improve safety and to reduce delays for traffic attempting to turn left from the ramp onto KY 2698/Carter Road. This traffic signal is located at KY 2698 mile point 2.417 at the end of the US 60 EXIT 12 eastbound exit ramp. The signal will also improve traffic flow for motorists using the eastbound ramp from US 60 by providing a break in traffic on Carter Road. Approximately 12,000 vehicles travel this section of KY 2698/Carter Road in an average day. The signal arrives just in time to assist traffic that is being detoured to the Carter Road interchange due to ramp closures required for reconstruction of the US 60 Interchanges with US 431/Frederica Street and KY 81/West Parrish Avenue in Owensboro. KYTC Engineers are expecting a traffic shift along the US 60 construction project in the next few weeks. The Transportation Cabinet will provide timely notice when the contractor is prepared to schedule that traffic shift.
