Results of a risk analysis will be known by the end of the year as officials determine what can be done with OMU’s aging Water Plant A. This month, an engineering firm recommended Owensboro Municipal Utilities immediately abandon an old water treatment plant on West 4th Street and spend $47-million expanding the newer plant. Mayor Ron Payne said he wanted the analysis to find out if Plant A could last another five years. If OMU ends up closing Plant A and expanding the newer plant, the average customer’s bill would go up $5 a month to help pay for the $47 million project. Water Plant A is more than 100 years old.
