Medical professionals are reminding everyone how quickly Independence Day celebrations can turn to tragedies when fireworks are involved. In 2013 approximately 11,400 people were treated in hospital emergency rooms for injuries associated with fireworks. Kosair Children’s Hospital Safe Kids Coordinator Erika Janes says the most common injuries involving fireworks are burns to the face, eyes, ears, hands and legs. She says sparklers get hot enough to burn through lead.
