A single vehicle crash Friday afternoon north of Loogootee killed an Indianapolis woman and injured four others.
Around 3:20 P.M., Barry P. Matesick, 69, Indianapolis, was traveling northbound on US231 near Abel Lane (approximately one mile south of West Boggs Lake), when his 2005 Chevrolet Suburban and trailer he was towing left the east side of the roadway. Matesick overcorrected the vehicle, causing it to cross the center line and leave the east side of the roadway. The Chevrolet came to rest after suffering a head-on collision with a tree. Matesick was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville due to his injuries, which are unknown at this time.
Matesick’s front seat passenger, Lorretta Matesick, 65, Indianapolis, suffered massive chest trauma from the impact and died as a result of her injuries. Three children in the back seat, Cheyenne McIntyre, 17; Meghan McIntyre, 15; and Erik McIntyre, 13, were all transported to Memorial Hospital in Jasper for minor injuries.
State Police were assisted at the scene by Indiana Conservation Officers, Martin County Sheriff’s Department, and the Loogootee Fire Department. US231 was closed for just over two hours while the crash was investigated.
