The names of those involved in the Friday afternoon shooting in French Lick have been released. At approximately 3:50 P.M. Friday, Indiana State Police Trooper Michael Allen, a three year veteran of the Department, and an officer with the West Baden Police Department responded to 8399 West Ohio Street in French Lick, for a report of a physical domestic situation. Officers were informed that Jose Ramon Damiani, Jr., 49, was strangling his wife. Officers arrived at the residence and attempted to speak with Damiani, who had fled from the house to a garage behind the residence. Officers again attempted to speak with Damiani, who would not converse with officers. Damiani picked up a large metal pipe from a pile of scrap materials in the garage, and begin approaching officers. Numerous commands to drop the pipe were given to Damiani; however, he failed to comply with their order. The West Baden officer fired his Taser at Damiani, but the device was ineffective. Damiani stepped directly up to the officer with the metal pipe, pulling the pipe back in a motion to strike the officer in the head with it. At that point, Trooper Allen fired his handgun at the male, striking him. The West Baden officer also fired his weapon. Damiani was pronounced deceased at the scene.
