Two separate petitions circulating around Ohio County could eventually result in alcohol sales being allowed in Beaver Dam, or even all of the county. According to the Messenger-Inquirer, a petition was released a few months ago calling for a local option election in Beaver Dam. Now, an online petition is making its rounds that could put it before the entire population of Ohio County. Because of changes in the law earlier this year, Beaver Dam can hold a local option election on alcohol sales even if the petition fails for the county itself. The online petition needs 2,247 signatures. If it’s successful, Ohio County would be the first to hold a local option election from an online petition. 300 names are needed for the Beaver Dam petition, which has nearly met that goal.
