If you see Owensboro Police Department officers with facial hair this month, Chief Art Ealum says its for a good cause. Sworn personnel who donated $40 each to benefit Operation Santa or Camp KOPS are being allowed to grow beards in November. This is a divergence from the usual OPD grooming policy. The only restriction is that the beard can only be up to an inch in length. Operation Santa is a food donation program aimed at helping those in need within our community during the holiday season; and Camp KOPS is a crime prevention program aimed at allowing local Kids to experience fun camping activities while Obtaining Positive Structure from our officers. Over $2,000 has been raised for the programs from officers.
