In a move that hasn’t been seen in several years. Kentucky has elected a Republican to the governor’s office. Businessman Matt Bevin, who previously had attempted to unseat Senator Mitch McConnell, handily defeated Attorney General Jack Conway by a margin of 53 percent to 44 percent on Tuesday. In other state races, Alison Lundergan Grimes barely held on to the Secretary of State’s office, a 51 percent victory; Democrat Andy Beshear gets into the Attorney General’s office by a margin of barely 2,200 votes over Republican challenger Whitney Westerfield; Republican Alison Ball won in a landslide for treasurer; and Republican Ryan Quarles is the new Secretary of Agriculture.
