Armstrong Coal recently announced 75 employees at its Midway Mine and preparation plant in Centertown could face layoffs. The layoffs are in response to a declining thermal coal market. Ohio County Judge Executive David Johnston says layoffs would have a negative impact on families, workforce development, and tax revenue. He says revenue would take a hit around 5%. Johnston says there are talks of retraining miners, but the plan is still in the early stages.
