An insect that could be carrying a deadly disease has been spotted in our area. Experts say the “kissing bug” is found in many southern states and throughout Central and South America. It’s called a Triatomine – better known as the Love or Kissing Bug. They bite on the neck and lips and like to move around at night. The bug can carry the Chagas disease, which leads to congestive heart failure. Obviously, these bugs can be deadly, so you have to be careful around them. Health officials say you don’t want to squash them, because the toxins can still be released. Health officials say if you do get a bite, wash it with soap and water and see a doctor.
