Kentucky State Police say the number of highway fatalities is up from last year. Troopers predict 730 people will be killed in accidents on Kentucky roadways by the end of the year, which will be the highest number of fatalities in four years. Transportation officials say more than 60 percent of those killed in Kentucky were not wearing seatbelts. There are also problems with speeding in areas close to an interstate or parkway. Drivers tend to get off the exit and keep driving at interstate speeds.
