A home invasion burglary ended with a suspect being shot and killed by police. At 12:11pm Thursday, units from the Daviess County Sheriff’s office were dispatched to a call in the 100 block of Booth Field Road, near Ben Hawes Park. A caller had also advised he encountered who brandished a firearm as he fled the area. Units confirmed the suspect had fled to some nearby woods and was armed. Deputies secured the home and called for backup from the Kentucky State Police and the Owensboro Police Department. Schools in the vicinity were put on lockdown. After around 15 minutes of searching, police saw the suspect and followed the individual while waiting for more backup. The suspect, a male, was commanded to surrender, and police say he seemed to kneel down to do so. That’s when they say he pointed a previously concealed firearm in the direction of police. That’s when an officer fired a patrol rifle, striking the perpetrator and killing him. The entire incident is under investigation, with KSP handling the shooting, and the sheriff’s office handling the home invasion.
