OMU rates going up, it appears – the governing board of Owensboro Municipal Utilities will meet today and is expected to vote in favor of an Energy Cost Adjustment, or ECA, although nobody is saying just how much. While base electricity rates went up 3.5% last year, OMU actually lowered the ECA by almost 33% . But shortfalls on the wholesale electricity market have put the utility in the hole, and Manager Terry Naulty says raising the ECA is the only way to remain solvent. Currently the ECA represents just under 20% of the cost of electricity in Owensboro.
