In Kentucky, state officials are asking you to donate a portion of your tax returns to help feed the hungry. Officials say it’s as easy as checking a box on your income tax return. A small portion of the return is then given to the “Farms-to-Food-Banks” Trust Fund. The program gives grants to nonprofits like food banks and shelters, who use the money to buy surplus produce from local farmers at a giant discount. Last year the program distributed over two and a half million pounds of fruits and vegetables to struggling families from 300 Kentucky farmers.
