The lawsuit over the death of Nett Gonzales, the Houston painter who was electrocuted while painting the Big Blue Bridge 3 years ago, may be close to settlement. Officials say the lawsuit is the single reason efforts to put a new lighting system on the bridge have been stalled. Attorneys say a meeting of the parties to the suit to discuss a settlement should happen this month. There will still be miles of red tape before the bridge gets what Mayor Ron Payne calls a new LED system.
