Yesterday at a 4pm public hearing the Payne administration defended it’s decision to borrow another $2.5M to finance a Bluegrass Music Center downtown. It’s become a compulsion at this point. Mayor Ron Payne is convinced that a $15M Bluegrass Music Center will bring thousands of tourists to Owensboro and create an economic boom that will eventually pay for Smothers Park and everything else. At least this time he stopped short of promising no new taxes. We all know what happened the last time he did that. The first reading of an ordinance authorizing the issuance of the bluegrass center bond was held last night during the regular City Commission meeting without objections.
