Mayor Ron Payne says he’s tired of waiting. Payne tells media partner 14News that he’s giving the developer of the former Gabe’s Tower a week before action will be taken to tear down the building. Payne says Copperhead Hospitality must put up a $250,000 performance bond, promising they will complete the work on the tower, which has been stalled for months. If that doesn’t happen, the city will take steps to condemn the property. Then federal funds will be used to raze the tower and build a new transit bus station on the property. Little work has been done since Copperhead announced in June they planned to reopen the tower as a Best Western next year.
