A man has been charged with manslaughter stemming from an incident on March 4. According to the Owensboro Police Department, at about 3:18am on March 4 OPD was dispatched to a residence in the 3300 block of Wandering Lane in reference to an adult male bleeding from the back of his head. The victim, 59-year-old Jose Chavez, had been reportedly dropped off by an unknown white male. Jose Chavez was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital by ambulance and an investigator from the OPD Criminal Investigations Unit was called out. An investigation revealed that 26-year-old Benjamin Lindsey was the individual that dropped Jose Chavez at his residence on Wandering Lane. Lindsey was questioned and admitted that Jose attempted to initiate a fight in front of 620 Crittenden Street which resulted in a physical altercation. Lindsey advised he struck Chavez which caused him to fall and receive a secondary injury for which he was later hospitalized. On Saturday, March 17th, Chavez died of his injuries. Blunt force trauma was the preliminary diagnosis. On Monday, March 19, Benjamin Lindsey was arrested and charged with Manslaughter, 2nd Degree.
