(Fancy Farm, KY)—If there were any surprises at Fancy Farm Saturday, it may have been the performance by the Republican candidate for Governor, Matt Bevin. Instead of striking out at Democrats and his opponent Jack Conway, he used his time on stage to encourage Kentuckians to approach the problems in the state with a unified front, Republicans and Democrats alike. Democrat Jack Conway, made it clear that he intends to lean heavily on his experience, citing a plan to bring more jobs, skills training, better pay and educational opportunities with his administration. Conway did attack Bevin on what he called Bevin’s big three lies, paying taxes on time, attending a cock fighting rally and hiding his finances. Bevin started his speech by saying the format of the Fancy Farm event provided one more way we are divided as a people and then proceeded to get the audience to join him in the pledge of allegience. He then talked about how his administration would work to unify the state. Bevin went on to say that only a united approach would allow for the massive problems that lie ahead for the state to be conquered no matter what part of Kentucky you live in. Democratic Governor Steve Beshear and Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell joined other political candidates up for election in November in attending the annual political picnic.
