The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to reopen KY 2181 to traffic in southern Hancock County on Tuesday, August 25. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet personnel are nearing completion of efforts to reconstruct a culvert along KY 2181 at mile point 1.6 north of the Pellville Community. The roadway is expected to reopen late in the day on Tuesday. KY 2181 has been closed since April 14th when KYTC Hancock County Highway Maintenance personnel found steel in the culvert was corroded and was threatening the integrity of the roadway. Members of the KYTC District 2 bridge inspection staff were called to the site to further evaluate the drainage structure. They determined section loss in the steel atop the culvert would require the roadway to be closed while engineers worked out plans to repair the structure. KYTC personnel have successfully reconstructed the culvert substructure and placed new concrete beams across the top of the culvert. KY 2181 is expected to reopen at this location sometime in the late afternoon hours on Tuesday. Motorists should be aware that the roadway will reopen with a temporary surface. After the roadway is allowed to settle for several weeks a new layer of asphalt provide a smoother driving surface.
