A standoff of sorts developed Tuesday morning at the Rowan County Clerk’s Office as clerk Kim Davis continues to deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Several couples arrived at the office, notably David Moore and David Ermold, who refused to leave without a license. Davis says she will not issue the licenses, saying she is on God’s authority to not do so. This comes in defiance of a Supreme Court order saying she must follow the new law allowing it. The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to intervene in the case, and Davis could now face fines or jail time if found in contempt. Because Davis is an elected official, she cannot be fired from her position.
