Great News! We had our first meeting this morning with the Mavericks, a Premiere League professional basketball team with aspirations to become part of the expanding NBA D-league. And we hit the ground running! Why not? This team is the 4-time and defending League Champion; they have a home winning streak of 93 games, and are taking over the Executive Racquetball facility on the river for training/practice; games will be at the Sportscenter starting in January and Yes, Virginia, they will have a liquor license! The Mavericks promise a near-NBA experience with lights, music, giant screens, the whole nine yards, and ticket prices start at 11 bucks — with kids 12 and under free, and a family 4-pack including 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 sodas and 4 t-shirts for just 50 bucks.
A Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting is scheduled for week after next; the Mavericks will also be at the big Job Fair at the Convention Center on the 27th.
Here’s a chance for Owensboro to get behind one of the top NBA feeder teams in the nation with a winning record and a bright future. We wish continued success to the Mavericks in their new Owensboro home!
