Around 100 people showed up at the Sportscenter yesterday for a reception to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the Goodfellows Club of Owensboro. The club, established a century ago by Lawrence W. Hager, general manager of what was then the Owensboro Inquirer newspaper, was dedicated to the mission that no child shall be forgotten at Christmas. Over the years the club’s mission has expanded to providing clothing and emergency dental and medical care to about 2,000 children a year. Daviess County Judge-Executive Al Mattingly presented a Fiscal Court proclamation honoring the Goodfellows Club.
