The Daviess County Public Library board will be seeking a third 60-day extension on its proposed expansion project in order to keep bid prices from increasing until it hires a new permanent director. Neal Guess, the project manager for Codell Construction, told the board at last night’s meeting that its second 60-day extension will expire in November. Guess said the longer the board waits to make a decision it risks code changes from the Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction as well as contractors pulling out as they accumulate more jobs. The library board has proposed a 14,700-square-foot building expansion to give it more programming space that will accommodate larger crowds. In the meantime, the library board is in the search process of hiring a new director to replace Jim Blanton, who left at the end of July to lead the Louisville Free Public Library.
