Area legislators Monday announced the latest recipients of the Hoosier Homestead award, which recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more. Represented by State Senator Erin Houchin of Salem, along with Representatives Lloyd Arnold of Leavenworth, Mike Braun of Jasper, and Karen Engleman of Corydon, four locally owned family farms were honored with a Centennial Award at the Indiana State Fair. These family farms include the Benz farm, located in Marengo; the Gresham farm in Eckerty; the LaHue-Schellenberger farm in DePauw; and the Vonderheide farm in Jasper. Arnold says, “Maintaining a family owned farm for over a century takes a high level of perseverance and commitment. Family farms like these are essential to maintaining Indiana’s agricultural tradition, and our community is grateful for the contributions of these successful farms.”
