Today marks an anniversary for what eventually became the Cromwell Radio Group. It was on November 7, 1972 that WKCM, then at 1140AM, went on the air in Hawesville, Kentucky. After years of planning, Bayard “Bud” Walters put the daytime station on the air, with the call letters standing for Western Kentucky Country Modern. Ten years later, the station increased power and moved to 1160AM. Today, it operates three FM translators in addition to the AM. 97.9, 101.3, and 98.7. Today we say happy 45th birthday to WKCM.
