America’s jobless total is down slightly. Today’s report from the Labor Department shows 232-thousand people filed first-time claims for unemployment benefits last week. That’s a thousand fewer than the week before and basically in line with what analysts were expecting. The biggest increases in claims were in New Jersey, Texas, New York, Arizona, and California. The sharpest declines in claims were in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois, Idaho, and Maryland.
