Students in Marshall County’s high school and two middle schools can leave a backpack off their list of back to school items. School leaders in Benton decided on Monday to ban backpacks as part of a new safety protocol at the schools. It was at Marshall County High School that a 15-year-old student opened fire back in January. Two students died in the attack, and about two dozen others were wounded or injured. Marshall County Superintendent Trent Lovett says students said a backpack ban would make them feel safer.
