The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there is a big difference in the rate of obesity in rural areas when compared with the suburbs.
According to the CDC just over 34% of adults living in non-metropolitan areas are obese. This compares to 29% of adults in metropolitan areas. Additionally, not surprisingly , rural residents have higher rates of obesity related diseases than their suburban counterparts. These include chronic health problems with coronary heart disease and arthritis.
