OWENSBORO, KY – Troy Quinn, the Owensboro Symphony’s music director has received a strong vote of confidence and support from the organization after his inaugural season on the podium. The Governing Board of Directors yesterday unanimously approved a three year extension to his original three year contract. Quinn’s original contract that would have expired after the 2020 season will now run through the 2023 season.
“I am delighted that the board has extended my contract through 2023,” said Quinn. “I look forward to building on the great musical experiences we have had over the past year and I am excited about continuing to make music with this stellar orchestra and community.”
Quinn became the Symphony’s fifth music director after a 18 month search that generated interest from more than 140 applicants. “We are truly very excited that Troy will be with us at least through the 2023 season,” said G. Dan Griffith, CEO of the Owensboro Symphony. “He understands our market and the programming likes and interests of our community and region. He is attracting attention within the industry and beyond because of his rich and diverse programming talent and is quickly making a name for himself.”
Two weeks ago Quinn was selected from amongst a very large pool of candidates to become the new music director of The Venice Symphony in Venice, Florida. Quinn will conduct both orchestras and remain on the conducting faculty of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles throughout the contract period. “It’s important to our organization that Troy is out and about in the industry, working with the best and most successful musicians and artists.” said Griffith.
Quinn announced plans for his second season in early May and at that time said, “We will be celebrating the best in classical, film, and popular music – our concerts will be a stirring mix of adventurous projects that invigorate our minds and traditional favorites that warm our collective hearts.” Ticket sales have already surpassed those at this same time last year. The Symphony anticipates another record season for ticket sales.
