Owensboro Municipal Utilities wants to raise water rates. The city commission listened to a proposal for a rate increase yesterday. OMU says the hike is needed to help pay for a two-year project to expand the William Caven Water treatment plant and replace existing infrastructure, including some that’s more than 100-years-old. If the request is granted water rates would rise by 32 percent with two steps starting this fall.
