State officials are reporting a decline in coal jobs across Kentucky. A report released this week by the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet says jobs were down in both of the state’s coalfields. Between April and the end of June, coal jobs decreased nearly one percent, but were nearly five-percent fewer than the same time last year. The report attributes the decline to an increased demand for natural gas, tougher environmental rules and increased investments in renewable energy.
