Daviess County High School is hosting a free college information session on Tuesday, Aug. 28, for members of the Class of 2018 and their families. The event begins at 5 p.m. with an open house style informational expo, college fair and free dinner with pizza and an ice cream sundae bar, provided by the DCHS Family Resource Center.
The program will feature information about applying to college, completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), scholarships, submitting transcripts and preparing for the ACT assessment.
Owensboro Community and Technical College, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Brescia University, Western Kentucky University / Owensboro Campus, the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville, Murray State University, Eastern Kentucky University, the University of Southern Indiana, the U.S. Army, and the National Guard will have tables set up in the school lobby starting at 5 p.m. Representatives will be available to provide information about their programs and to answer questions about opportunities available to students after high school.
Those in attendance will also be eligible for door prizes. Drawings will be held periodically throughout the evening for prizes, including a dorm-size refrigerator donated by the DCHS Youth Services Center.
The event is sponsored by the DCHS Guidance Department, Youth Services Center, PAWS organization and DCHS Panther Foundation.
“We are excited to celebrate the beginning of senior year with the Class of 2019 and their families, but it is also important to realize how quickly this year will go by,” said DCHS guidance counselor Kelly Powers. “This event is part of our ongoing commitment to preparing students to succeed beyond graduation. We are looking forward to providing important information and resources to help students and families with the college application and financial aid process.”
All DCHS seniors and their families are invited to attend. For more information, contact guidance counselor Kelly Powers at 270-852-7305 or kelly.powers@daviess.kyschools.us or Trey Pippin, DCHS College and Career Readiness Coach, at trey.pippin@daviess.kyschools.us
