Hundreds of area senior citizens are expected to fill Owensboro’s Towne Square Mall on Thursday, September 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., for the 19th annual “Senior Day Out.”
The annual event provides valuable information to help equip seniors to recognize fraud and empower them to avoid falling prey to current scams targeting seniors. Senior Day Out provides an opportunity for local businesses and service providers to interact with hundreds of seniors from across the GRADD region.
The serious topics are balanced with fun entertainment provided by local talent. This year’s featured performers will include musical guests Grayson Bryant (as Buddy Holly), Ohio County’s McKenzie Bell, and local bluegrass band Shrimp ‘n’ Grits. Area seniors will model the latest fall fashion from Christopher & Banks, JC Penny, and Macy’s. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact in some fun games, testing their scam-prevention knowledge.
Senior Day Out is an event of the Green River Regional TRIAD, a group consisting of local law enforcement, senior service agencies, and older adults who work together to reduce criminal victimization of the elderly. The local TRIAD serves Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union, and Webster Counties by offering educational material, programs, and activities such as the annual Senior Day Out at the Mall event.
Melissa Polites, Union County Aging Coordinator states, “TRIAD can make a difference in the lives of seniors by building strong relationships with law enforcement, keeping both seniors and those who serve them abreast of current fraud and scam trends, and equipping seniors to take action when faced with fraud and other dangers.”
This year’s event is sponsored by Atmos Energy, Aramark, Glen Funeral Home, Help at Home, Humana, Miracle Ear, and Wellington Parc.
