The University of Kentucky is suspending the freshman student who allegedly struck a young boy outside a UK football game, and the fraternity he pledged. The school announced yesterday that Jacob Heil and Alpha Tau Omega are suspended while awaiting the determination of investigations by the UK Police department, which is working together with the Lexington Police Department. Authorities say Heil struck four-year-old Marco Shemwell while he and his family were waiting to cross Cooper Drive near Scoville Saturday during the university’s football game.
The student says he drank two beers before crashing into a four-year-old boy on the side of Cooper Drive during the university’s football game. Jacob Heil was arrested by police at the scene Saturday on suspicion of drunk driving. Police say his blood-alcohol content was above the legal limit for those under 21. Authorities also say the freshman had a strong odor of alcohol, bloodshot watery eyes, and signs of impairment on field sobriety tests.
