As a reminder, a contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a daytime closure along US 231 in Southern OHIO County on Saturday, December 8, 2018.
The contractor plans to close US 231 near the 5 mile marker on December 8th to allow a cross drain to be replaced. This closure is along US 231 near Southern Elementary School and just over 1 mile south of the Western Kentucky Parkway Beaver Dam Exit 75 Interchange.
US 231 is expected to close at this site at approximately 7:00 a.m., CDT, on Saturday, December 8th. The roadway at this site is expected to reopen to traffic at approximately 5:00 p.m., December 8th. This planned closure is weather dependent.
The contractor will provide timely notice if the roadway opens earlier than expected.
There will be no marked detour. Motorists may self-detour along the Western Kentucky Parkway and the William Natcher Parkway via the William Natcher Parkway/US 231 Morgantown-Cromwell Exit 36 Interchange.
Unless additional work is required on another cross drain, this is expected to be the last cross drain replacement closure as part of safety enhancements along US 231 in southern Ohio County.
As a reminder, US 231 continues to be an active work zone in southern Ohio County with daytime lane restrictions to facilitate ongoing construction.
This work zone for a Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP) runs along US 231 from the KY 505 intersection at milepoint 1.810 extending northward through the Cromwell community to milepoint 6.590 near the Western Kentucky Parkway Exit 75 Beaver Dam Interchange, a distance of 4.78 miles. Work zone lane restrictions may be required for ongoing construction at various locations along the work zone.
This safety project includes widening of culverts, ditching and shoulder work, enhancing the super-elevation of curves, and resurfacing, as well as other safety enhancements.
Road Builders, LLC, is the prime contractor on this $1.1 million Highway Safety Improvement Project.
Approximately 3,000 vehicles travel this section of US 231 in an average day.
